Beneath the Fins: A Backstage Look at 'The Little Mermaid'

Rehearsals for 'The Little Mermaid' have been an absolute splash! We're now in our second month of rehearsals, and I'm over the moon with the progress we're making. We've been putting in the hours on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons from 2 to 5 pm, and I'm delighted to see the cast really diving into their characters.

This year, we've had to cap the number of performers on stage, which led to the chorus being split into dancers and chorus members. This change has allowed us to introduce a wide range of dances and songs for our audience to enjoy. Shannon Wignall, our choreographer, has been wowing us with her fantastic dance routines, and they look absolutely fabulous when the whole cast comes together.

Having Emma Packer as our musical director this year has been a real game-changer. Her presence at rehearsals has made a massive difference in bringing our songs to life, and it's been a toe-tapping good time.

We've had so many laugh-out-loud moments during rehearsals, and it's been a blast for me as a director.

It's a real hoot to see my visions coming to life and the cast fully embracing their characters.

I'm particularly chuffed with my cast. It's astounding that some of them have already nailed their lines, which just shows their dedication and enthusiasm. Personally, I'm as lucky if I know my own lines by show week!

As we prepare for the show, my biggest hope is that everyone, from the cast to the audience, has an absolute blast and enjoys themselves to the fullest. After all, that's what panto is all about—having a whale of a time while doing something you love!
